Obsidian City is a city located in the southern landmass of the Miato Region.

Description

Obsidian City steadily climbs into the snowy mountains of the Obsidian Ridge and features a somewhat terraced look. As a good point to climb into the mountains, Obsidian City became a major attraction for skiers and other winter sports aficionados.

Articuno Rescue Force HQ

The Obsidian Ridge, beautiful as it is, holds many dangers for the unwary. To search and rescue hikers, skiers and others lost in the mountains, the Articuno Rescue Force was founded by Ken, Obsidian City's Gym Leader and a former military helicopter pilot who now lends his specialty and skills to more civilian endeavors. Though they have dedicated staff and crew, trainers of a certain skill level (at least six gym badges or equivalent achievements are a minimum requirement) are allowed to join missions on a volunteer basis to broaden search efforts and utilize the assistance of their Pokémon.

Obsidian City Gym

The building that presents itself as the Obsidian City Gym is little more than a warp terminal. The gym itself is nestled at the heart of the Obsidian Ridge, at a reasonably high altitude, and involves some kind of aerial puzzles. Eventually, in the final chamber, challengers will encounter Ken, the Gym Leader - who will bestow the Wing Badge on those challengers who defeat him and his Flying-type Pokémon.

On the player's first arrival at Obsidian City, Ken is out on a mission. After obtaining the Eon Badge from Melissa in Topaz City, events that will bring them back to Obsidian City will require them going out on a mission prior to being able to challenge the gym.
