Professor Erin Redwood is a Pokémon Researcher and the Miato Region's regional Pokémon Professor. Her research laboratory is located in Jade Town.

Appearance and Personality

For Pokémon Professor standards, Erin Redwood is rather young - at the time of the Jade Town Trainers' adventure she is roughly in her late twenties or early thirties. She has long, straight orangish-red hair (which she usually wears down)and eyes in a unique shade between blue and green (behind a pair of roundish glasses with a bottomless frame) - Her particular eye and hair color are traits that appear to run powerfully in her family. She has a low-register voice that seems to radiate deep intelligence - deep intelligence that she indeed possesses, and in spades. She also possesses a great organizational capacity, leadership skills and the sort of personality that commands respect - through charisma rather than intimidation.

She conducts herself with a varying degree of formality. She is generally rather casual, laid back and good-humored. When there is much work to be done and she is occupied with orchestrating matters, though, she tends to be more formal, curt and with much lower tolerance for nonsense. Thus, she can be rather demanding - but she gets things done.

At the heart of her personal philosophy lies the belief that one should never stop challenging oneself - falling into stagnation is easy, but at the end of every challenge is another challenge - a greater challenge - and one must be prepared to take on that challenge sooner or later, using what they learned from their past challenges - both success and failures - to conquer it.

As a researcher

The title of regional Pokémon Professor has been running in the Redwood family of Jade Town for many generations now - and Erin inherited her title from her father - a prolific researcher who has since retired, leaving her with the lab.

Prof. Redwood specializes in the vast field of Pokémon Biology, spending a lot of her time engaged in field research outside her lab. Her current ongoing project follows the patterns of the Stantler migrations into Quartz Forest. Alongside her research work, she also spearheads the Global Pokémon Database Server project - a global collaboration of Pokémon researchers to produce a complete database of all known Pokémon species worldwide. This brings her in contact with many other regional Pokémon Professor and other scientists.

As a trainer

"I had a feeling I would see you here eventually, <Trainer>. Seems like only yesterday when you accompanied me through Quartz Forest, with only two Gym Badges to your name... and now you stand at the summit of Mount Triumph, ready to face the Champion.

Ready to face me.

You know, I always felt that while studying Pokémon in a laboratory setting was very important - one can never truly understand Pokémon without living and working with them, bonding with them - and yes, battling with them. Neither path is more important than the other, and both were crucial for making me what I am. When I took over the duties of managing the Jade Town research facility I knew that it would bring with it a great deal of new responsibilities and a lot more pressure. I could have easily chosen one path over the other - but I did not. Because, you see, there are two ways to do things: either you become complacent in your strengths, and in time, stagnate - or you continue pushing yourself forward, break barriers and become the best version of yourself you can possibly be.

I may be a Pokémon Professor, But first and foremost, I am a trainer. And you know what that means... be the very best, like no one ever was.

So, you think you have what it takes to top that, <Trainer>? No, don't say anything. Instead, let us answer that question together... on the field of battle!"

She is a skilled trainer of her own right - perhaps the most powerful trainer in Miato - and considers herself a trainer first and only then a researcher, believing that one cannot truly understand Pokémon without living and working with Pokémon - and that battling is a part of it. She always carries a diverse team of Pokémon with her and uses her knowledge of Pokémon on the field of battle to turn the tide of battle in her favor.
