Biology
Ishinazumi is a mammalian Electric/Rock-Type Pokémon resembling a rodent. Their body shape is somewhat between that of a rat and a squirrel, with a rather distinctively shaped head. their body is covered in a layer of thick, bluish-grey fur, with some lighter golden areas on their paws and along their tail. Distinctive rocky scute-like growths seem to cover the top of their heads, small patches on their cheeks, their shoulders, a great part of their legs and a segment of their tail.
The rediscovery of Ishinazumi in various rocky areas of Miato was somewhat of a surprise as the fossil record showed nothing similar to this species for millions of years. Genetic analysis of captured individuals shows no markers of being a revived species - which makes Ishinazumi somewhat of a living fossil. Little is still known about Ishinazumi's behaviour in the wild, though it is assumed to be nocturnal in nature and it appears to be primarily herbivorous.
Name Meaning
A combination of the Japanese words 'ishi' (rock), 'inazuma' (a flash of lightning) and 'nezumi' (mouse).
Origin of Design
Ishinazumi is based on the Laotian Rock Rat (Laonastes aenigmamus), a rodent species that may be an example of a Lazarus taxon, closest relatives having disappeared from the fossil record for several million years.
