Appearance and Personality
Raven is a pale young woman of a tall and slender build. Her eyes are an orangish-gold hue and her hair is a pale blond and is usually done up in two thick braids that fall down on her shoulders and are often held together by deep red orb-like clips. She is often seen dressed in a long, sleek, sleeveless black dress made of satin-like fabric, with a high slit along its side and a jagged hem. Over this dress she wears a reddish-brown leather belt with a suspender-like belt made of the same reddish leather attached to it, forming a collar around her neck, a red gem within a silver setting serving as a clasp. She usually hangs her Pokéballs from the suspender-like belt.
She wears black fingerless gloves composed of the same fabric of her dress. Her right glove features a silvery symbol resembling the TCG symbol for the dark type, whilst her left glove (the one worn on her dominant hand, as she is left-handed) holds a strange, complex piece of jewelery. A silver bracelet studded with red gems is clasped around her left arm, a little below the shoulder. She often wears silvery, high-heeled shoes.
Raven is naturally nocturnal - she sleeps during the days and is at her best at nights. She conducts herself with regal elegance and may seem somewhat distant and reclusive, often allowing only a faint shadow of a smile to be present on her face.
Role in the Story
In addition to her role as a Gym Leader, Raven has yet another responsibility - one that has been running in her family for generations. Raven is the current Gatekeeper of the Tiger's Eye Grove - she alone knows the secret location of the Western Guardian within the Tiger's Eye Ridge and the way to unlock the path leading to it from within the grove. As the Jade Town Trainers begin their quest to awaken the Guardians following the completion of their Gym Challenge, their path will eventually lead them to Raven - who lends them her left glove. As it turns out, the ornate sigil on the glove is not merely decorative - it is linked to the Tiger's Eye Grove and when brought there, it will reveal the path leading to the Western Guardian. Following the Sigil's indications will be crucial to revealing the path. After the four Guardians are awakened, the glove is to be returned.
As a Gym Leader
Raven specializes in Dark-type Pokémon of various sorts, as naturally nocturnal as she is. As such, her gym only opens for challenges at night. She has an under-leveled Triyote, though perhaps this is accounted for by her having to hold back as the first Gym Leader the Jade Town Trainers would face.

Quotes
First Battle
- Upon challenging her for the first time:
"Welcome, challenger. I am Raven, this city's Gym Leader. Like my Dark-type Pokémon, I, too, shun daylight. My partners and I are at our best when the sky is dark and dotted with stars. We are but shadows in the night. Do you think you can defeat us in our element?"
- During Battle:
"Interesting."
- After sending out last Pokémon:
"My final Pokémon. So, it has come to that..."
- When defeated:
"A splendid match. Clearly, you can walk the path of darkness with confidence and courage."
- After being defeated:
"In darkness, our senses are confounded and our path is unclear, unknown. Perhaps it is why many fear the dark - they fear the unknown. But unknowns are inevitable, and may bring good things as well as bad. Remember that."
Rematch
- Upon challenging her for a rematch:
"We meet again... It's been a while. When you and I first met, a novice trainer on his/her first gym battle, I sought to test your mettle, to see if you can walk the path of darkness in confidence. Your newfound title of championship proves it beyond all shadow of a doubt. This pleases me greatly - it means that you and I can do battle once more... and that this time, my partners and I do not have to hold back. We are the abyss gazing back into you. Face the true fear of the night!"
- During Battle:
"You have come a long way since our first meeting."
- After sending out last Pokémon:
"My final Pokémon. So, it has come to that..."
- When defeated:
"It appears that victory is yours once again."
- After being defeated:
"Even the longest, darkest night ends and gives way to a new day. That is inevitable. But that new day shall end too and be followed by another night. That too is an inevitability. Neither is more valuable than the other, and both must be embraced - for without each other they have no meaning... and only together they are truly complete."
