Biology
Cuttendril is a Water/Psychic-Type Pokémon resembling a cuttlefish. They most commonly display a color phenotype featuring a reddish head and a mottled, golden-brownish mantle, both with an array of darker markings. The mantle is lined with a dark fin sporting orange markings, which Cuttendril undulates as it swims.
Cuttendril are exceptionally intelligent creatures - an intelligence which they demonstrate in a large range of behaviors. They are capable of rapidly changing their colors as well as the polarization of light that reflects from their body - an ability which they often use to communicate with others of their kind, but also as a form of active Camouflage. This camouflage allows them to sneak up on potential prey undetected and to avoid predators.
Cuttendril are carnivores, feeding on various fish and crustacean Pokémon. Using their color changing ability, they sneak up on potential prey, snare it with their tendrils and pull it towards their beak, with which they deliver a poisonous bite, incapacitating the prey and making it easier to consume. Should a predator see through their camouflage, Cuttendril are known to emit clouds of ink to confuse the predator and make their escape. Sometimes they merely emit a diffuse blanket of ink in the manner of a Smokescreen - though they may, at times, emit smaller globs of thicker ink and manipulate it using their mild telekinetic abilities to form a 'pseudo-body', acting as a Substitute. These pseudo-bodies are frail, but they often provide enough of a distraction for the Cuttendril to escape. Should pseudo-bodies or smoke screens fail to deter the enemy, Cuttendril may weaponize its ink by emitting it in a concentrated Ink Jet, utilizing the recoil of the move to dart away rapidly.
