Basileaf is extremely swift and energetic. If a river or a lake stands in the path of a running Basileaf, it will run across the water without difficulty. The distinctive three crests on its head, back and tail have inspired many myths.

Biology

Basileaf is a quadrupedal, gracile reptilian Grass-Type Pokémon resembling a mix between a plumed basilisk lizard and a dinosaur. Basileaf can be easily recognized by their distinctive crests. Its head is crowned by one such crest and framed with an array of leaves. A dorsal ridge runs along its back, its base lined with the same manner of small vine-buds that Ennulithe posesses. Its tail is also crested, the tail-crest possessing having the form and nature of a large leaf - often used by the Pokémon to execute Leaf Blade attacks. Basileaf's crowned appearance has inspired myths among the ancient people of Miato - although its true claim to fame is its speed, allowing it to even run across some bodies of water.

Energetic and prone to a certain degree of wanderlust, Basileaf rarely settle in one area for too long, often migrating from one area to another - occasionally forming small packs, though these tend to be temporary and dissociate as easily and frequently as they form.

Name Meaning

A corruption of basilisk (referring to the lizards as opposed to the mythological creature) and leaf.

Origin of Design

Ennulithe is largely based on the males of the plumed basilisk lizard (Basiliscus plumifrons) - an iguanid lizard native to Latin America, well known for its ability to run short distances over water (an ability which gave it the nickname 'Jesus Christ Lizard'). Its anatomy, however, is more closely based on that of dinosaurs.

Locations

Due to their nature as an evolved starter form, Basileaf are not found in the wild.
