Little is known about these enigmatic deep dwellers. Sightings of Cephabyss are extremely sporadic, but what data exists shows that they are very large, very intelligent and possess psionic abilities that only few Pokémon species may rival. The faint psionic emanations sometimes detected from the depths of the ocean may be signals of Cephabyss activity.

Biology

Cephabyss is a gigantic Water/Psychic-Type Pokémon resembling a squid. Like their previous form, their favored color configuration is a reddish head, a mottled golden-brown mantle and black-and-orange fins. It possesses a rather distinctive morphology, with extremely large wing-like fins. Six of their ten appendages are of the same length whereas four of them are particularly long and often held alongside the others in an odd 'elbowed' formation. Bio-luminescent organs with a controllable aperture exist along the edges of Cephabyss' fins and at the back part of its mantle, under a small pair of auxiliary fins.

Cephabyss are among the largest Pokémon known to exist, sometimes reaching size ranges of 20 meters from the tip of the tail to the end of the longest tentacle. The average trainer could lie down comfortably on its head section alone. Their bodies are not the only thing that is enormous - their brains are also extremely large and well-developed, and they appear to have highly developed psionic abilities - their faint signature can be detected even from the extreme depths they dwell in.

Due to their nature as extreme deep sea dwellers, Cephabyss sightings are extremely rare and knowledge of their habits in the wild are rather limited. It is known that they occupy rather large territories and communicate with each other via advanced telepathy. They have virtually no natural enemies, and they can apparently control their metabolic requirements to such an extent that they do not require much prey. It may be that they lure prey to the depths using a faint psionic call, but this is not confirmed yet. Wild Cephabyss sightings close to the surface have been confirmed, but they are extremely rare.

Name Meaning

A combination of 'cephalopod' and 'abyss'.

Origin of Design

Cephabyss is based on several different abyssal squids, including the giant squid, the colossal squid and bigfin squids of the genus Magnapinna. Their bioluminescent nodes are inspired by the vampire squid.

Locations

Wild Cephabyss may happen sparsely in the deepest depths of the ocean - ones that can only be reached with a Bathysphere.
