Although small, Formarch can easily carry things many time its own weight. Groups of these Pokémon are known to march in almost military-like formations when migrating to a new colony.

Biology

Formarch is an insectoid Bug-Type Pokémon resembling a somewhat anthropomorphized ant. Their carapace ranges between a few shades of reddish brown. Four of their six limbs are particularity developed and serve as arms and legs, while their second pair of limbs is rather small, it is nonetheless capable of extending and holding objects. Though rather diminutive in size, they are phenomenally strong, capable of lifting and carrying masses far greater than their own.

Formarch are social creatures, often living in immense colonies where different individuals have different roles. Typically only a few individuals in a colony breed whereas others operate as protectors or workers. Roles in a Formarch colony are rather fluid and may change should the good of the colony demand it. Formarch have an intricate mode of communication based on chemical cues which allows them to coordinate their efforts with extreme efficiency.

Formarch generally seem to form large underground colonies. However, should food supplies in an area become scarce or their nests destroyed beyond convenient repair, Formarch have been known to migrate en masse to new locations suitable for colonizing, traveling in almost military-like fashion, using their own bodies to form temporary shelters and bridge gaps and bodies of water. Fortunately for everything else in the region, such migrations are rather rare. If one does occur, though, it is probably a good idea not to, if you may pardon the pun, antagonize it.

Interestingly, the Formarch genome seems to have sequences in it that are unlocked by radiation from certain types of evolution stones. As Formarch colonies appear to consist solely of Formarch - with no associated evolutions - this raises interesting questions as for why these sequences are present. One theory on the subject states that the social nature of Formarch is an evolutionarily recent phenomenon and that they used to have solitary ancestors. Another theory, derived from the winged nature of these evolutions, states these possible evolutions first arose as potential long range nesting forms, allowing the species to distribute itself beyond the range it can march to. The truth, currently subject of mass research and debate, is probably somewhere in the middle.

Name Meaning

A combination of 'Formicidae' (the biological family that contains all true ants) and 'march'.

Origin of Design

Formarch are based on ants.

Locations

Formarch are rather common creatures and can be found in the vicinity of several cities.
