Belladonyx takes the form of a beautiful enchantress and lures her prey to her lair, where she drains its life-force with vine-like appendages. She then severs these vines with a scissor-like limb, cutting the hapless victim's thread of life.

Biology

Belladonyx is a humanoid Grass/Ghost-Type Pokémon. Its body seems to have evolved from the vegetative parts of Alraunum, with very little evidence - if at all - of the root section still remaining. Belladonyx resembles a green-skinned, slender human female in appearance, clad in a dress composed of leaves and petals and held together by a belt of vines. The 'skirt' portion of the dress, composed of petals, obscures four long tendril like structures which serve as legs (though more often than not, Belladonyx floats in the air, these tendrils trailing behind it). A pair of broad leaves are draped over its shoulder like a short cape or shawl. Its head sports a mane of deep green vines fading to violet towards their tip and arranged in a structure resembling a ponytail, a tiara of dark purple berry-like growths and leaves decorates its head. Belladonyx' eyes also resemble these berries, and are emphasized by green 'eyelashes'.

Belladonyx's wrists are crowned with an array of leaves. One of its arms is tipped with an appendage resembling a human hand with long, sharp and dark purple fingernails. These nails are actually located at the tips of extendable vines and regrow quickly when severed. Its other arm, however, is tipped with an appendage resembling a pair of scissors with serrated edges. Belladonyx often keeps this appendage obscured from the eyes of its would-be prey.

Belladonyx, like many ghost-types, draws sustenance from strong emotions. However, these rarely suffice to sustain it. Belladonyx has a natural aura that is rather strangely alluring to other Pokémon as well as to humans. When a Belladonyx locates potential prey, it intensifies the effect of this aura, charming her prey and leading it off to its lair - where it promptly extends one or more of its vine-nails, impaling the prey and injecting it with a paralyzing toxin, feeding on the paralyzed prey's life energy until it is sated. Afterwards, it severs the vine-claw with its scissor-limb, often ending the victim's life, but not always. Though successful attacks on humans are extremely rare, they have occurred before and survivors described the experience as thoroughly chilling - and often state the last thing they saw before blacking out was the Belladonyx grinning far too widely as drops of green fluid dripped from the severed end of the vine.

This strategy of enchanting and luring its victims to feed on them - as well as the extremely potent toxins that flow through its body - have given Belladonyx a reputation as the Devil's Own. These toxins - alkaloids that act as cholinergic receptor blockers and have paralyzing and hallucinogenic effects - have gained much notoriety through their history of use as assassination poisons and drugs. However, there is another side to this so-called cursed enchantress. The unique alkaloids that Belladonyx uses can be used in small dosages to counteract the effect of certain toxic nerve gases - particularly ones that inhibit acetylcholine breakdown in the body. There are tales of Belladonyx who saved their trainers from certain death due by utilizing this ability.

Name Meaning

A combination of the plant species Atropa belladonna and Nyx, the primordial goddess of night in Greek mythology and consort of Erebus.

Origin of Design

Belladonyx is based on the deadly nightshade, Atropa belladonna, and the many mythologies surrounding it. Its design is also inspired by Atropos, one of the three Fates (or Moirai) of Greek mythology. Atropos was the Moira who cut the thread of life of every living being - and gave the plant the name of its genus. Its design is also meant to invoke a beauty to Mandrebus' beast.

Locations

Belladonyx may be found in deep sections of Quartz Forest and possibly on the Rainforest Island.
