Quartz Forest Tourmaline Town

Quartz Forest is a vast and deep old growth forest that covers a sizable portion of Miato's northern landmass. A path through the forest leads from Quartz City to Tourmaline Town.

Description

Outskirts (Quartz City side)

A small path heads south and then east into Quartz Forest proper. The path is paved and lined with some of Quartz City's plant-intergrown streetlights. Some tall grass can be found here, but no trainers are present.

The Forest

Once you cross the treeline (passing under an arch of intergrown trees) the paved path ends and gives way to a dirt path walking further in. Quartz Forest itself is a vast, deep old growth forest - at places so dense light barely filters in through the canopies and at places sparser, letting air and fresh sunlight - or starlight at night - in. Nestled as it is between the two ridges it has some mountainous inlets, some possessing caves. Small lakes, streams and waterfalls are present within the forest, and many of the old fallen trees and rocks are moss-laden.

The forest has many paths crossing through it - some overgrown with thick underbrush impeding progress along them, some interrupted by lakes or streams, and many leading into deeper places of the forest where the forest's larger, more dangerous denizens may roam. Travelers should exercise caution when crossing into these deeper paths.

There is a main path, of sorts - a dirt road that is simply the main path on virtue of being the one most often traveled. Professor Redwood is found here on your first run through the forest, shortly after you enter the forest proper. She is there investigating the seasonal migrations of Stantler. She will team up with you as you walk along the migration path (it strays somewhat off the main path through the forest) as she follows her own team lead - a freshly caught Stantler (she also has a Cablaze on her, in case the Stantler needs backup). Eventually the migration path will lead you to a glade roughly at the center of the forest, dominated by a large, radiant crystal formation. Stantler are gathered around it, along with a few Antleridot - and Redwood's Stantler joins them. An eerie sound sweeps through the clearing as they all lower their heads towards the crystal. A ripple takes the air as a concentrated beam of light from above hits the crystal, refracting and shining on the Stantler - which erupt into glow and mass-evolve into Antleridot. They stand there for a moment, and proceed to scatter, the only Stantler remaining behind is Professor Redwood's. She congratulates it on its evolution. She then proceeds to state her theory - over time, some form of energy seems to build up in the crystal, which is released when the crystal is excited by light. Stantler use their ability to distort reality to lens sunlight into a focused burst that flows through the crystal, excite it and release the energy all around - which they absorb and powers their evolution. Apparently the Stantler Migration cycles have been synchronized with the recharge rate of the crystal, with different herds (synchronized differently with cycle of seasons) migrating in at different times to evolve. She gets rather excited about it all before remembering that you're there too and she kind of forgot herself, and apologizes for it. She says that from what she saw, you seem to have great potential - and that she looks forward to your next encounter. She also says it seems the Crystal still has some energy left in it, and points that you could probably use that energy to evolve certain kinds of Pokémon. She then leaves with her newly evolved Antleridot to continue her observations.

from the crystal glade, few paths may be followed that lead back up to the main path, which will eventually lead you out of the forest.

Outskirts (Tourmaline Town side)

Eventually the trees dwindle and lead to a small path trailing towards the east in the general direction of Tourmaline Town. There is little of note about this path other than it leading straight into the center of the town. Some forest creatures occasionally wander out of the treeline and linger around in the wild grass in the area.

Wild Pokémon

Quartz Forest teems with life. Many of the creatures in Quartz Forest may be found in other regions too - various insects (including the occasional Heracross and Scyther) and birds are rather common as well as Cherubi and the aforementioned Stantler herds. Puprism and Floravis are rather common along with their previous forms (and a few scattered Berylace may appear as well). Occasionally herds of Stettle and perhaps a Spinettle or two lumber through the forest - and it is very common to spot small, inquisitive groups of Alraunum. The deeper segments of the forest, the further one wanders away from the main path, host higher leveled, more powerful Pokémon - and at nights, one may even run into wandering Mandrebus or the occasional Belladonyx.

The few caves in the Quartz Forest hold colonies of bat Pokémon and some Rock-types, and in grassy patches by the rivers and small lakes one may occasionally find a wild Aqwing.
