Alraunum are known for their almost fearless curiosity, often investigating disturbances to their immediate area in groups. Predators avoid them due to the neurotoxic alkaloids in their tissues. The leaves are particularly deadly, containing the most alkaloids.

Biology

Mandrebus is a large, hulking, lumbering quasi-humanoid Grass/Dark-Type Pokémon. Its body seems to have evolved and grown from the root portion of its Alraunum stage, developing a darker coloration and more generally root-like limbs. Its back has developed a jagged, plate-like look and its head seems to have sprouted horn-like root extensions which it can use to leech nutrients from its foes. A 'crown' of Greyish-green leave with purple venation adorn its head, and a series of strange, luminous fruit-like growths grow seem to dangle on stalks projecting from along its back. The glow may lure prey towards Mandrebus. There are rumors that these growths have powerful medicinal qualities - especially on matters of fertility - though the scientific merit of these claims is still uncertain.

Mandrebus are very strong, robust beasts, capable of withstanding much damage and regenerating with relative ease - sometimes by rooting themselves to the ground. They are nocturnal creatures, usually settling down in a shadowed corner of the forest and taking root during the day and walking about at night in search of prey or surveying their territories. They usually have a hunched over, lumbering gait, occasionally using their forearms for support - but they are capable of standing and walking in an erect, upright stance - one they often take as a threat display (and at times use as a prelude to a powerful Body Slam).

Their nocturnal nature, prowess in combat and imposing presence has given them somewhat of a mythical reputation as primordial forest spirits of the night.

Name Meaning

A combination of Mandrake and the genus Erebus, a primordial deity of darkness in Greek mythology.

Origin of Design

Mandrebus is based on a mandrake plant and on various forest spirits. Its horn roots are a reference to the various pagan Horned Gods (such as Cernunnos) associated with nature and fertility - a nod towards the uses of mandrake in witchcraft and folk medicine

Locations

Mandrebus may be found in deep sections of Quartz Forest and possibly on the Rainforest Island.
