Erol is the Gym Leader of Lapis City. He specializes in Crystal-type Pokémon and hands out the Jewel Badge to Trainers who defeat him.

Appearance and Personality

Erol has steel-blue eyes and mid-brown, spiky hair with a single, thin braid running along the side of his face, tipped with a string of three small azure orbs. He is dressed in a white and blue cloaked attire resembling that of a mage, with hexagonal markings on the hips, legs and shoulders. A small, round blue crystal adorns his forehead, and another adorns his collar.

Erol believes in honesty and clarity above all else. Illusions, he feels, are everywhere and are too often taken for granted. He is fascinated by the infinite complexity running just under the surface of seemingly simple things - and is particularly intrigued by the physics of light and the effects of the crystalline structure of various minerals on it. This led to his attraction to Crystal-types - as these qualities are in their essence.

Role in the Story

In addition to his duties as a Gym Leader, Erol is an authority of sorts on the subject of Azure Valley. He spends a great deal of time exploring it and analyzing its mineral structure. After the Jade Town Trainers defeat the Elite Four and the entirety of Azure Valley becomes accessible to them, Erol joins them as they explore a previously unexplored part of the valley, battling alongside them briefly as they find an old ruin showing a strange link between Azure Valley and the Elemental Pokémon of Miato.

As a Gym Leader

Erol specializes in Crystal-type Pokémon, though one of his Pokémon is the Dark/Ghost-type Sableye, which evolves into a partial Crystal-type.
