Northern Guardian
Galena Town

The Northern Guardian is one of the ancient quasi-living constructs located in the Miato Region. Situated in the heart of a labyrinth of glaciers somewhere in the north seas of Miato, it is associated with the winter season and the classical element of water.

To reach the Northern Guardian, the player must surf northwards out of Galena Town, and chart a path through a labyrinth of glaciers, ice floes and thick, obscuring mists. The currents are dangerous, some of the ice floes move, necessitating proper timing to cross, and some of them require stepping onto and crossing on foot. Wild Pokémon - both of the swimming sort and of the sort one might find on ice floes and glaciers - may also impede the trainer's progress. And to top it all off, visibility is very low, forcing the trainer to essentially "fly on instruments" by using the Pathfinder, making their way towards the only thing that appears to be constant in this ever-shifting frozen wilderness, something massive and shrouded in the mists in the distance that can only be barely discerned.

But at last the veil of fog abruptly tears and reveals the Northern Guardian in all its glory - an island-sized, turtle-shaped construct appearing to be partially carved out of the ice of its surroundings and partially of the living, marble-like stone the Guardians are built of, veins of icy-blue energy flowing through its form and giving it an ethereal radiance.

Interior

Disembarking on the Guardian's surface and finding a pathway inside reveals a structure primarily composed of the living marble shaped into the flowing organic curves characteristic of the Guardians. Water flows through channels and cascades between floors, powering assorted mechanisms, sometimes requiring phase-transitions applied through manipulation of the energy flowing through the Guardian to find the path to the Heart Chamber. The closer you get to the chamber, the colder it gets, and the water becomes icier.

The Heart Chamber

The Northern Guardian's Heart Chamber resembles a resplendent glacial cavern, the glow of the energy within the walls and the assorted interface structures casting marvelous refraction patterns. As you approach the Glyph at the center of the chamber, the Glyph's protector is released, and the automated security system generates a continuous storm of Snow that cannot be overridden with other weather effects for the entire duration of the battle.

The Glyph's protector is a Winterora with a stat boost across the board drawn from the dormant power of the Glyph itself. Its Rainbow Mist soon fills the chamber, making it impossible for the trainer to match the protector's boosts or use confusion or attraction to their benefit. Upon defeating the Protector Winterora, the hailstorm ends and the Glyph may be accessed using the North Stone. As the system is reinitialized, A West Stone is revitalized, allowing you to continue to the next guardian.
